How to get your baby's first passport: How complicated is it?
Taking a baby on your first vacation is an exciting
time. Your first time traveling on a plane, seeing new things and doing a lot
of fun activities. But if you plan to travel outside the US., Then you must
order your first passport. Unlike 10-year-old adult passports, a child under
six only lasts five years. It's not too complicated, but there are some things
you should keep in mind. Here's how to get your baby's first passport for a
fun-filled vacation.
Get passport photos
Since you can not use a photo booth for a newborn or
baby, you can go to a photo studio that takes pictures of a child's passport.
The photo will be taken with your baby lying on a white or white background. To
accept your baby's photo, you must have both eyes open and face straight (not
tilted) so you can see the chin and both ears. Small babies can of course be
unpredictable and, despite their best efforts, they may want to cry or sleep
throughout the process, which is unnecessary. So try to pick a time when your
baby is alert and happy, has been fed recently and napped to give him the best
chance to do it right the first time. Babies can not have toys or use
mannequins in their image and must appear alone, so it will not be possible to
hold them and support them with the arm, if shown in the picture.
Alternatively, you can take your baby's picture at home using a light colored
cover as a background. The image must be clear, of the right size and printed
to a professional standard.
Get the right documentation
The documents you will need for your baby's passport
are Form DS-11, which you can find online and simply print. You will need to
show evidence for yourself, such as your driver's license or passport, as well
as proof of your child's citizenship and your relationship with him. A birth
certificate is sufficient proof here, if you have lost it, you can apply for a
quick birth certificate easily online.

Present in person
US passport  applications.
For infants and children, they must be in person at a passport agency or at a
passport application acceptance center. Ideally, both parents will appear in
person with the baby and will sign a DS-11 form with an acceptance officer. If you
are a single parent applying for your child's passport, you will need to
provide and send a second parent's consent statement along with the other
documents. If you have sole custody of your child, you will have to show what
happened to the other parent. Although it may seem frustrating for a single
parent, it is in your child's best interest. Imagine that your ex-partner can
apply for a USA Passport without your consent and that your child leaves the
country. This process prevents situations of this kind from occurring.
